A hilarious video has captured the moment a crocodile dances in mid-air as it tried to reach a slab of meat being dangled from above.

Footage taken on a Northern Territory tourist boat showed the crocodile lift almost its entire body out of the water to reach the food being lowered on a rope.

The large reptile could be seen wiggling its upper-body as it jumped towards the meat in a shimmy-like motion.

The crocodile's efforts were in vain though as the guide pulled the meat away at the last second before it could take a bite.

Viewers were left stunned by the crocodile's slick moves after the video went viral on TikTok alongside the caption 'making friends'.

'Did he just lift his whole body by wiggling its tail,' one person wrote.

'He did the worm in mid air,' another said.

Others though were more concerned whether the hungry crocodile ever got its hands on the tasty snack.

'He worked so hard for that,' one user said. 'Give it to him!'

'Making friends - more like teasing animals,' another wrote.

A crocodile's tail is made from solid muscle - giving it the strength to suddenly jump out of the water to capture its prey.
