Remains located in search for missing mom Savannah Spurlock

Authorities discovered human remains in the case of a missing Kentucky mom who vanished from a bar more than six months ago — and said an arrest has been made in her disappearance.

Kentucky State Police

Savannah Spurlock, a 23-year-old mom of newborn twins, was last seen Jan. 4 with two unknown men as she exited a bar in Lexington, the Richmond Police Department said.

The FBI said Thursday the remains, which have not been positively identified, were located late Wednesday in Garrad County, about 30 miles from the local watering hole where Spurlock was last seen.

Kentucky State Police also arrested 24-year-old David Sparks of Lancaster on charges of abuse of a corpse and tampering with evidence.

It’s unclear whether Sparks was one of the men spotted on surveillance footage with Spurlock as she left the bar.

“Just before midnight, human remains were located by law enforcement officials,” Kentucky State Police spokesman Robert Purdy wrote on Twitter. “As a result of the ongoing investigation the deceased is being taken to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort for an autopsy & identification.”

Spurlock is the mom of four kids including a set of infant twins, who were born in December. Her family has said the disappearance has been difficult on the children, particularly her 4-year-old son.

“He doesn’t know what’s going on, but my fear is how long can that take place, you know?” her mom, Ellen Spurlock, told news station WKYT in a January interview.
