Joe Biden falls off bike as he rides near Delaware beach home

It’s a vicious cycle.

President Biden fell off his bicycle Saturday during yet another long weekend at his Rehoboth Beach, Del. vacation home as the nation’s economy – along with his poll numbers – also continued to stumble.

The 79-year-old commander-in-klutz dropped to the ground at 9:40 am and was instantly swarmed by Secret Service agents who rushed to help him to his feet.

“I’m good, I’m good,” insisted  Biden, who said the unintentional dismount happened when his sneaker got stuck in the toe cage on the right pedal of his $599 Trek FX hybrid bike as he tried to dismount.

Biden’s wheely bad day began around 8:30 am with a leisurely ride through Cape Henlopen State Park amid a crowd of security agents.

An hour later, as wife Jill split away on her own two-wheeler, Biden cruised over to a group of about 30 curious locals who had gathered near the press pool to watch him pass by.

“Happy Father’s Day,” a woman said, as others clapped.

But the crowd’s greetings turned to gasps as the president keeled over, falling on his right elbow and knee.

The White House insisted Biden was “fine” despite the mishap.

“As the President said, his foot got caught on the pedal while dismounting and he is fine,” an unnamed White House official said. “No medical attention is needed. The President looks forward to spending the rest of the day with his family.”

But the incident recalled several of his past plunges.

Biden has fallen up the stairs of Air Force One repeatedly during the 16 months of his presidency, most recently on June 8 as he left Washington for an interview with Jimmy Kimmel.

And in December 2020, the then-president-elect broke his foot when he tripped after taking a shower, chasing his dog Major and grabbing the pup’s tail, as he explained it. The injury forced him to wear a medical boot for weeks.

Biden’s latest tumble came as his popularity continued to crumble.

The president’s approval rating stands at 39.8%, according to the RealClear Politics polling average. A huge 47% said they “strongly” disapprove of his job performance in Friday’s USA Today/Suffolk survey, with 61% disapproving overall, while 71% of respondents saying the US is “on the wrong track.”

The poll came during another woeful week for the stock market, when the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed below the 30,000 mark for the first time since January 2021. The average cost of regular unleaded gas hit its all-time high Tuesday, surging to more than $5 per gallon, and the annual US inflation rate hit a fresh 40-year high of 8.6% in May.

Biden, an avid biker, has been riding his well-worn Trek FX 1 Disc, a lightweight hybrid built to take on varied types of terrain, for years.

“That thing is ancient,” said a former Trek employee who identified the model for The Post.

The bike’s pedals have been tricked out with toe cages or clips to boost the president’s pedaling power.

But that feature, along with the FX’s traditional “diamond” or “step over” frame, can make it hard for less-agile riders to dismount the bike quickly, the source said.

“I’d say nothing wrong with riding a bike at his age,” the source said. “But he needs a bike that’s easier to get on and off.”

Once Biden was vertical again Saturday, he led his new pooch, Commander, over to the spectators on a leash, then posed for photos with a young girl.

He briefly spoke with reporters – after first joking, “I’m not going to talk to you on my vacation” – deflecting a question on the gun legislation that’s stalled in the Senate, and saying that he plans to speak with President Xi Jinping of China “soon” about lifting tariffs.

“I’m in the process of making up my mind,” Biden said.

Critics predicted that Biden’s increasing lack of agility would be ignored by most of the media.

“Let’s see which story gets more MSM coverage … Biden’s actual fall off a bicycle today or Trump’s non-fall walking slowly off stage at West Point,” tweeted former White House press secretary Ari Fleischer, recalling the withering coverage former President Donald Trump received in 2020 for his cautious gait at a commencement ceremony for Army officers.

Rep. Majorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) took a pointed dig at the president’s advanced age.

“This pretty much sums up the state of our country doesn’t it?” Greene tweeted. “Perhaps it’s because the only place people past the age of retirement can work are in Government leadership and Walmart.”

“Biden falls almost as often as our standing in the world,” commented GOP Rep. Lauren Boebert of Colorado.

“Who cares if Biden fell off his bike?” posted conservative filmmaker Dinesh D’Souza. “I’m more worried about this demented lunatic driving America off a cliff!”
