Police in northern Florida found several jars filled with preserved human remains this week while inspecting the foundation of a home that was once owned by a researcher and professor.
At least six jars containing formaldehyde and decades-old body parts, including tongues dating back to the 1960s, were found in a crawlspace during the inspection in Gainesville, according to local news station WCJB.
Each jar reportedly holds about one gallon and is labeled with a name and a date.
The gruesome discovery may be linked to work performed by Dr. Ronald Baughman, a former researcher and current professor at University of Florida, the ABC affiliate reported Monday.
Baughman has published numerous studies throughout the years and also served as director of the university’s Maxillofacial Surgery Advanced Training Programs, according to medical research website ScienceDirect.
An investigation is underway.
