Police Investigate 'False' Shooter Call At Washington-Liberty HS

ARLINGTON, VA — A false report of an active shooter at Washington-Liberty High School in Arlington was made Monday afternoon, according to the Arlington County Police Department.

At 2:23 p.m., Arlington County Police responded to a 911 call about a shooting at the high school. When they arrived, officers did not find any evidence of a shooting or any injuries, police said.

Schools in Spotsylvania and Culpeper counties also received fake 911 calls on Monday reporting an active shooter, InsideNoVA reported.

Washington-Liberty High School Principal Tony Hall sent a note to families of students shortly after 3 p.m., alerting them that a "false 911 call was made," alleging that an active of violence occurred at the school.

"This was quickly determined to be a false report, and there was no act of violence committed at the school," Hall said. "All students are safe."

The principal explained to families that there was increased police presence at the school and that Arlington County Police were investigating the incident.

"There is no lockdown at this time and dismissal will occur at the normal time," he said.

Shortly before 5 p.m., Arlington County Police reiterated in a tweet that they found no evidence of a shooting or act of violence at the school. Police are investigating the false report of an active shooter. The public can report any tips to 703-228-4180 or ACPDTipline@arlingtonva.us.
