McBride scores 22, rallies Aces past Lynx

MINNEAPOLIS -- Kayla McBride had 22 points, including four consecutive free throws made in the last 25.6 seconds, as the Las Vegas Aces beat the Minnesota Lynx 80-75 Sunday night, June 16, at Minneapolis.

After the teams were tied at 58 entering the fourth quarter, Minnesota forged ahead, taking a 72-64 lead with 4:47 remaining on a driving shot by Damiris Dantas, who led the Lynx with 22 points while making five 3-pointers.

The Aces, however, answered with 14 consecutive points, capped by four consecutive free throws by Liz Cambage and two by McBride to take a 78-72 lead with 25.6 seconds left.

Cambage's two free throws with 2:01 remaining gave the Aces their first lead of the game, 74-72.

Dantas' three-point play with 18.5 seconds left cut the lead to 78-75, but McBride sealed the win with two more free throws with 12.6 seconds remaining.

The Aces (4-3) won back-to-back games for the first time this season while the Lynx (4-5) suffered their fourth consecutive defeat Sunday night. They have lost three consecutive games at home.

Kelsey Plum, who made 5 of 8 of her 3-point attempts, had 21 points for Las Vegas. Cambage added 14 points and nine rebounds, and A'ja Wilson had 13 points and eight rebounds.

Minnesota did not trail in the first half and led by as many as 14 points, 25-11, with 8:25 left in the second quarter.

The Aces kept the game close by rallying for eight consecutive points behind two 3-pointers by Plum to cut the lead to 25-19 with 6:22 remaining in the half. Las Vegas closed the half outscoring Minnesota 8-2 to cut the lead to 39-35.

Plum was 3 of 4 from 3-point range in the first half and led the Aces with 13 points.

Minnesota had more balance in the first half, with Dantas the leader with nine points and Odyssey Sims and Danielle Robinson each with eight.

The teams were tied at 58 entering the fourth quarter after Minnesota blew another double-digit lead, 56-46, with 3:00 left in the third quarter. Plum, McBride and Sugar Rodgers each made a 3-pointer in a 12-2 run to close the quarter.
