Within seconds of diving in, the fisherman, who appears to wear an underwater camera, comes face to snout with a large grey shark.

He gingerly pokes the apex predator with his spear gun, spooking the shark and prompting it to turn tail and retreat into the depths of the ocean.

The fisherman thrashes in the water for a few seconds, poking his head through the surface momentarily before diving back in to make sure the shark had fled.

He then resurfaces again with an excited laugh, exclaiming in apparent bewilderment to his companion waiting for him on the boat: 'what the f***, dude?!'

It is unclear what type of shark the spearfishing aficionado encountered during his lucky escape.

The warm waters off the coast of Southern Florida are home to a dozen shark species.
