At Sunday’s Mets-Tigers game, the home broadcaster found Met fan John Oliver in the stands for an extended interview. Most of the segment with the “Last Week Tonight” host was a straightforward discussion of how he produces his show, but the Brit also explained how he became a Mets fan:
“I knew it was just not acceptable to come to America and support the Yankees. It’s just not OK…By default, I was a Mets fan, because I knew being a Yankees fan was the wrong thing to do morally.”
Oliver has a history with the Yankees. In 2016, he sold Yankee Stadium premium seats for 25 cents to fans in a series of costumes.
