Duke’s on Alki Reopens After Being Shut Down Over COVID-19 Outbreak

A week after being shut down due to a COVID-19 outbreak, one West Seattle seafood spot is reopening again. Last Wednesday, Public Health Seattle - King County announced it had temporarily shut down Duke’s Chowder House on Alki Beach after discovering that multiple employees at the location tested positive for COVID-19. The department also found the restaurant had been in non-compliance with Washington’s “Safe Start” requirements for restaurants, specifically when it came to layout to help promote social distancing. But the health department has since signed off on the reopening, with a plan that “addresses employee health screening, physical distancing for employees, and compliance with 50% seating capacity.” The employees who tested positive are still in quarantine.

Canlis’s New Outdoor Pop-up Crab Shack Debuts This Thursday

First, it was a drive-thru burger joint. Then it was a drive-in movie theater. Now, fine-dining destination Canlis is about to transform into an outdoor, beachy seafood pop-up. Canlis Crab Shack debuts Thursday, featuring whole Dungeness crab, roasted corn, beer, and cocktails. As part of the outdoor, sandy seating arrangement in the South Lake Union’s parking lot, diners will get temperature checks before entering, there will be bathrooms placed around the shack area, and all tables will have built-in hand sanitizers. Prepaid reservations are $60 per person.

Kirkland’s New French Restaurant Feast Officially Opens

The Eastside has gotten a little more French. The new Kirkland restaurant Feast, which quietly opened briefly in February only to promptly close down due to the COVID-19 pandemic, is now open near the corner of Park Lane and Lake Street. The menu includes duck cassoulet, beet salad with whipped chèvre and candied grapefruit, and Pacific cod with polenta, along with the a burger topped with merlot jelly and braised short rib. There will also be draft cocktails and an extensive wine list as well. Feast currently has indoor and outdoor seating available at 50 percent capacity, as mandated by the current phase in Washington’s “Safe Start” plan.
