Multiple-Alarm Fire At School Board Member's Home In Bergen County

The home of a Franklin Lakes Board of Education member was rendered "uninhabitable" after a fire that occurred early Sunday, sources said.

FRANKLIN LAKES, NJ — A house owned by a Franklin Lakes Board of Education member was heavily damaged by a fire early Sunday morning, rendering the property uninhabitable.

The single-family residence at the corner of Kings Point Trail and Phelps Road was owned by Ari Donio and his wife Evelyn, according to state tax records.

At 1:48 a.m., firefighters responded to the two-alarm blaze, which was knocked down within an hour, Franklin Lakes Police Captain Mark McCombs said.

Authorities have not officially determined the cause of the fire at the two-and-a-half story wood-frame home, McCombs said.

Donio was elected to the school board in 2021, and his term expires in 2024. He is a member of the board's committees on special services, community relations, and curriculum and instruction, according to the school district website.
