Jason Donovan has paid tribute to former Neighbours actor, Darius Perkins.

The 54-year-old played Scott Robinson on the Australian soap before Donovan took over the role.

As reported by Australia's The Herald Sun, Perkins passed away from cancer on Wednesday (January 2).

Taking to Twitter on Sunday (January 6), Donovan paid his own personal tribute to the original Neighbours cast member.

"Never met Darius but always had great respect both personally and professionally," Jason said.

"Sending love to family and friends. Peace brother, fly high high ... rest in peace."

Donovan isn't the only Neighbours star to pay tribute to Perkins following the tragic news of his passing.

Also taking to Twitter on Sunday (January 6), Paul Robinson actor Stefan Dennis said he was "heartbroken" by his death.

The actors only recently reunited when Perkins returned to the Aussie soap in 2013 as a different character, acting the part of Paul Robinson's dodgy associate, Marty Kranic.

"Heartbroken.... just heard the news that Darius Perkins died on Wednesday," he said.

"Rest In Peace, little brother."

Neighbours executive producer, Jason Herbison, said in a statement: "Darius holds a special place in TV history as one of the original cast of Neighbours.

"We were thrilled to welcome him back to the show in recent years and remember him fondly. He had great stories to tell and was particularly warm and humble, leaving a lasting impression on everyone.

"Gone too soon, our best wishes go to his loved ones at this sad time.”

Neighbours airs weekdays on Channel 5 in the UK.
