Police say items were thrown from the lower tier of the Jack Walker stand towards away fans in the Darwen End.

The Lancashire Derby did not pass without incident as one woman suffered a bruise and burn to her face from a pyrotechnic thrown from the upper tier of the Darwen End.

The object hit a North End supporter, who was sat in the front row of the stand.

When police appealed for details of this incident, PC Dan Fish, Rovers' dedicated footballing officer, said: “This incident shows how dangerous it is to bring pyrotechnics into a football ground."

Following the game, Lancashire's police and crime commissioner Andrew Snowden, who joined officers at the game to see the way fans are kept safe at games, praised the policing.

He said: “Policing major events, from football matches to festivals, protests, conferences and many others that take place throughout the year, requires significant resources from across the Constabulary to manage the risks that come with large gatherings and to prepare for every eventuality.

“This was a great chance to see this kind of operation in full swing, from preparation and briefing through to deployment, and the involvement of different policing teams including mounted branch, dog unit, the roads policing team, and many others to mitigate risk and maintain public safety.

“Often, officers may be unseen, with a focus on engagement and interaction with people who just want to have a great day out.

"However, additional resources are on hand should they be required to tackle crime, disorder and anti-social behaviour.

“The detailed planning, sharing of relevant intelligence and partnership working that helps regular policing operations like this run smoothly and crack down on offenders where necessary, is a testament to the commitment of officers and staff, working around the clock to protect the public."

Anyone who recognises any of the men should email 4843@lancashire.police.uk or call 101 providing the number associated with the image of the individual and their name. Quote log 1377 of November 17, 2023.
