The New York state Assembly has tapped a white-shoe law firm — and a lawyer who worked on special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia probe — to investigate sexual misconduct claims against Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP will head the Assembly Judiciary Committee’s probe into Cuomo, Speaker Carl Heastie and Judiciary Committee Chair Charles Lavine said Wednesday.
“Hiring Davis Polk will give the Committee the experience, independence and resources needed to handle this important investigation in a thorough and expeditious manner,” Heastie said.
Davis Polk’s team will include lawyers Angela Burgess, Martine Beamon and Greg Andres — a former Brooklyn federal prosecutor who most recently worked as an assistant special counsel on Mueller’s Russia investigation.
Andres was also the lead trial lawyer who secured the conviction of former Donald Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort.
Beamon is also a former federal prosecutor who worked in New York’s Southern District, while Burgess is co-chair of Davis Polk’s White Collar Defense and Investigations Group, according to their online biographies.
Davis Polk has offices across the globe, with major practices in areas such as capital markets, finance, tax and white-collar criminal defense.
A source told The Post earlier this week that the Assembly’s probe, a prelude to possible impeachment proceedings, will have “wide latitude.”
Cuomo — who has been accused by seven women of inappropriate behavior, including sexual harassment and groping — is also being investigated by state Attorney General Letitia James.
