THURSDAY ALERT: Open cypher at Projectivity on Nov. 29

If you're looking to get your work out there, now is the time. Projectivity, a local organization linking musicians of all ages and all backgrounds to professionals in the community, hosts a monthly workshop and open cypher at their Project Lab space in Stapleton.

The next one to attend is Thursday, Nov. 29 from 7-9 p.m. Live beats will be provided by AJ Pantaleo.

STARTING THIS WEEK: NYC Winter Lantern Festival at Snug Harbor

Starting on Wednesday, Nov. 28, Staten Islanders will have the chance to walk through the elaborate display of 30-foot lanterns taking over the meadows of Snug Harbor Cultural Center and Botanical Garden. The NYC Winter Lantern Festival will last six weeks and consist of more than 40 installations -- not so bad for its first time in the New York City area.

The festival -- taking place on the grounds of 1000 Richmond Terr.-- begins Wednesday, Nov. 28 and ends Jan. 6, 2019.  The festival will be open Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, from  5 p.m. to 10 p.m., and Fridays and Saturdays, from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Performances -- included in the price of admission -- are at 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays; 6:30 p.m., 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

In The Wings presents 'Annie' at Snug Harbor Music Hall: Nov. 30-Dec. 9

In the Wings brings the musical classic "Annie" to Staten Island from Friday, Nov. 30, through Sunday, Dec. 9. Performances will be held at the Snug Harbor Music Hall in Livingston.

Headlining in "Annie" are: Dominique Treglia as "Annie," James McBratney as "Oliver Warbucks," Samantha Hermansen as "Miss Hannigan," Rebecca Sciannameo as "Grace Farrell," Craig Kwasnicki as "Rooster Hannigan,"  Fiona Gannon as "Lily St. Regis," Michael Whalen as "Bert Healy," John Griffin as "F.D.R," Gary Bradley as "Drake," and Kristen Dalto as "Star to Be."

Holiday Doo Wop Spectacular at the St. George Theatre: Nov. 30

The St. George Theatre presents a  performance celebrating the holiday season and classic doo wop music this Friday, Nov. 30.

Here is the lineup:

Jay and the Americans: "Cara Mia," "Come a Little Bit Closer," "Walking in the Rain," "She Cried," "Only in America."

The Duprees: "You Belong to Me," "My Own True Love," "Have You Heard."

Charlie Thomas' The Drifters: "Save the Last Dance For Me," "On Broadway," "Under the Boardwalk," "White Christmas."

Shirley Alston Reeves (original lead singer of The Shirelles): "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow," "Mama Said," "Soldier Boy."

Bobby Brooks Wilson (A Tribute to his father Jackie Wilson): "Higher and Higher," "Lonely Teardrops," "To Be Loved."

The concert will be hosted by "Brooklyn's Own" Joe Causi and "Staten Island's Own" Vito Picone.

Labyrinth Art Collective presents public art in Port Richmond: Nov. 30

Labyrinth Arts Collective, Inc. presents its latest piece of artwork on the gates of Project Hospitality, located at 1540 Castleton Ave. in Port Richmond this weekend.

Featured artists include Phyllis Caputo, Charo López, Elaine Mendez, and Liz Marotti.

The viewing event, titled "Walk This Way: The Port Richmond ArtScapes Series" takes place Friday, Nov. 30 from 4-6 p.m. The event was made possible by a DCA Premier Grant from Staten Island Arts and public funding from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs.

Along with photographs from Labyrinth Arts Collective events of this year, live entertainment will be provided by La Familia Repertory Company featuring Marvin F Camillo Valentine and Traci Timmons.

This event is free and open to the public.

O.A.R performs at St. George Theatre: Dec. 1

O.A.R. is a roots-and-reggae band that transcended jam band cliches to become one of the 2000s most popular live acts.

This Saturday, Dec. 1,  the band will perform at the St. George Theatre.

O.A.R. hits include Peace, That Was A Crazy Game Of Poker, Shattered (Turn The Car Around) and Love and Memories. To date, O.A.R. has sold close to two million albums and more than two million concert tickets, including two sold-out shows at New York City's Madison Square Garden and Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado.

Holiday tribute to Motown at the College of Staten Island: Dec. 1

The College of Staten Island welcomes So Good For The Soul, a band paying tribute to music of Motown featuring the songs of the Temptations, The Four Tops, The Supremes, and Marvin Gaye Saturday, Dec. 1 at 7:30 p.m.

The performance will bring Staten Islanders back to the 70's and 80's -- a thriving time for this genre. A portion of the proceeds are going to the Wounded Warriors project.

Ticket prices range between $30-$50. The College of Staten Island is located at 2800 Victory Blvd. The performance will take place at the Center of the Arts, 1P.

Dance, orchestra concert at St. John's University: Dec. 2

"Concerto di Natale," a musical event featuring ballet performances and orchestra scores, is in the St. John's University gymnasium on Sunday, Dec. 2, at 3 p.m.

Sponsored by the Office of Community Relations and the Italian Cultural Center of St. John's in Grymes Hill, the afternoon event has scheduled performances by the New American Youth Ballet presenting "Neapolitan Dance" from Swan Lake; Dragon Kim's Karate USA; Hellenic dancers from Holy Trinity-St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church; Richmond County Orchestra, and the Brighton Heights Youth Orchestra.

Christmas in Historic Richmond Town: Dec. 2

Historic Richmond Town is celebrating the Christmas season on Sunday, Dec. 2 from 11 a.m. - 7 p.m.

Staten Islanders are invited to participate in immersive performances reflecting history, interactive arts and craft classes for all ages, a holiday fair provided by HRT's Women's Auxiliary and tours through historic homes decorated for Christmas. Attendees are also able to attend a tinsel-making demonstration, design their own gingerbread and ride a train for $3 per ride.

Santa will make a grand entrance at noon and a tree will be lit at 5 p.m.

Tickets are $10 per person, $8 for children, students and seniors.

Pinup pitbull calendar release party at Cargo: Dec. 1

Cargo, aka 120 Bay Cafe, will have live music and dogs on Saturday, Dec. 1. If that's not enough to catch your interest, maybe donating to a worthy cause will.

The 2019 Pinups for Pitbulls calendar is set to release with a party at Cargo in St. George. Staten Islanders can look forward to raffles, specialty drinks and meet and greets with the 2019 calendar model Allie Kelly. Local bands set to play this event are LIONESS, Never Really Knew, Too Many Cats and Good News for Clovers.

Pinups for Pitbulls is a nonprofit organization with a mission to educate people about the history, temperament, and plight of the pit bull-type dog. The organization has committed to raising awareness to rally against Breed Specific Legislation and Breed Discriminatory Laws.

Colonial Christmas at the Conference House: Dec. 2

The Conference House in Tottenville welcomes Staten Islanders to a traditional Christmas celebration featuring none other than Father Christmas himself.

The event provides live music and free tours through the Colonial Manor House. There will be a special exhibit in the historic home of Christmas around the world.

Attendees will also receive free hot apple cider and baked cookies as they peruse the  fine crafts and gifts in the Kitchen Marketplace and in the Visitor Center.

Wagner College Theatre presents 'Everybody': Nov. 28- Dec. 2

Wagner College Theatre is all about pushing the envelope and their latest production is just further proof of that.

The college, located in Grymes Hill, presents "Everybody," a show created by Brandon Jacob-Jenkins where the actors involved won't know their role until it is randomly chosen after the curtain goes up. "Everybody" is a modern take on the Medieval morality play "Everyman," as the title character Everybody (chosen by lottery from the cast at each performance) faces the ultimate reckoning.

Holiday ballet performance at the Staten Island Children's Museum: Dec. 1

The Staten Island Children's Museum in Livingston is hosting a variety of events in December to help get visitors into the holiday spirit.

Here's what they have planned for the month: The ShopRite Kidz Cook sessions, taking place Friday's at 3 p.m. and 4 p.m., teach participants how to bake holiday cookies. These sessions are free with admission to the museum.

Participants will also create pop-up cards as part of the Weekend Art Studio open on Saturday's and Sunday's from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The Brighton Ballet Theater will be taking the stage this Saturday, Dec. 1 at 2 p.m. to perform skits from the holiday favorite "The Nutcracker."

Soul show at CANVAS Institue in Stapleton: Nov. 30

The CANVAS Institute of Arts, Culture and Civic Engagement in Stapleton will fill with soul on Friday, Nov. 30.

The Staten Island gallery space is set to host a guided tour through the 70's through vocalists Missy Lee and Michael Lee -- known as "The Lee Connection" from 7-10 p.m.

During the event, live jazz music will be provided by Jimmy Hill (Piano), Randy Gaffney (Guitar), Tony Taylor (Bass) and Ben J. (Drums)

LAST CHANCE: Get to 'Working' at Wagner College until Dec. 2

"Working" explores the American workday from the Monday morning blues to a working person's pride in having "something to point to."

Performing a revised version of the 1978 musical, Wagner College Theatre's James Barry returns to direct the show with dance choreographed by Wagner alumna Ashley DeLane-Berger and music director Carl Haan.

The "Working" cast features Flor Alexsandra, Emma Alteri, Emily Berit Barkovic, Zack Blanchette, Aaron Blandino, Gino Cardoni, Ross Coughlin, Gianina Mugavero, Sammy Quinn, Dana Rudnansky, Gabriel Trimbur,  Kelly Hedden and Miles Wilkey.
