CLEVELAND, Ohio - Hofbrauhaus in Cleveland has closed temporarily after two workers tested positive for coronavirus.

The restaurant posted a statement saying in part "Since the initial outbreak of COVID-19 in our community, we have worked diligently to create a safe environment for our guests and our team. We have been wearing masks, washing our hands, practicing social distancing, monitoring our temperature, regularly sanitizing our entire restaurant and adhering to all safety guidelines, and through our efforts we have remained transparent with our valued guests.

Despite these precautions, we had two team members test positive for COVID-19 on Monday, July 6. It is our understanding these individuals were exposed to the virus outside of our restaurant."

The statement goes on to say it will be closed “until further notice as a precaution to keep our city, employees and valued guests safe to thoroughly clean and sanitize our entire facility following health officials’ guidelines before moving forward with any food services.”

Hofbrauhaus took a cautious approach to reopening in May, when the governor's stay-at-home order was loosened.

The restaurant employed a reservation-only policy while requiring patrons to wear masks unless seated. Staffers were required to have their temperature taken. One person per shift was dedicated as Covid-19 safety patrol, which ensured common areas were disinfected regularly. The restaurant also underwent deep cleaning weekly, and social-distancing and other measures were taken both for the cavernous dining room and expansive patio.

Hofbrauhaus is at 1550 Chester Ave.
