Shyko Amos made her debut on Death In Paradise as new police officer Ruby Patterson, but that didn’t stop viewers from missing former star Danny John-Jules.

Despite only seeing one episode with Ruby in it and not giving themselves a chance to get to know her, many were feeling the loss John-Jules’ character Dwayne – even though the actor chose to leave the show.

Ruby, the niece of the police Commissioner, came on board to help DI Jack Mooney investigate a murder at a zoo.

She made quite the entrance as her unguarded personality and big smile injected humour and fun into the episode (her furious applause when Jack unveiled the murderer was a memorable moment).

But for some viewers it just the wasn’t the same.

However there were others loving Ruby’s arrival and were looking forward to seeing more of her.

Ruby initially didn’t get on with her fellow officer JP, and ended up accidentally shooting him in the bum with a dart.

He slammed her abilities as a police officer, but when Ruby’s helpful research led to the capture of the killer, he changed his tune.

At the end of the episode Ruby agreed to stay on and help solve crimes in paradise.

Shyko previously asked fans to give her a chance after receiving comments online from people who said they only watched the show for Danny.

Speaking to Series Linked, she said: ‘I was nervous, I can’t pretend I wasn’t, because everyone on social media does always tell me, “We miss Danny”. Or you get the ones, the ones of you out there that are like, “Well, I’m only watching it for him”.

‘And they’re not even going to give me a chance. Give me a chance!

‘On the one hand it was daunting, but on the other hand, I just thought, well, I’m completely different so it’s a chance for me to just do something different and I really hope that you guys will like it.’

Death In Paradise airs Thursdays at 9pm on BBC One
