Riot squads were called to disperse violent teenagers after train passengers were terrorised by a group of up to 100 African-Australian youths.

The terrified commuters claimed the youths held train doors open and were fighting and screaming abuse in Melbourne's Lynbrook railway station. 

Police were called to a nearby park at around 7.30pm after reports of an assault, The Herald Sun reported.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman said police found the group of youths in a reserve next to Melbourne's Lynbrook railway station

'On arrival they found a large gathering of youths in a reserve next to the Lynbrook railway station,' a Victoria Police spokeswoman said. 

'The youths were asked to move on with the majority catching trains at the nearby station.

The Victoria police spokeswoman added that no offences were reported and no victims came forward.  

Transit police and Protective Service Officers monitored the youths' movements for the rest of the night amid fears of violence.

At least 25 riot squad officers were seen near the railway station and the reserve where the youths were loitering.

'There were at least a hundred, probably more of them, anywhere from 16-20 years of age, they were young and of Sudanese appearance,' a witness told the Herald Sun.

'Was organised by kids for hours cos they’ve all been hiding in trees and stuff around the station,' one Facebook user said. 

'It takes a lot to shock me, but I was lost for words. Train couldn’t leave as it couldn’t close its doors and poor driver could only toot his horn'.
