Flint-area basketball highlights: Carman-Ainsworth wins battle of unbeatens vs. Goodrich

FLINT – After trailing by a point entering the fourth quarter Saturday, Carman-Ainsworth outscored Goodrich by 10 points in the final eight minutes to post a 73-64 boys basketball victory.

Goodrich led 53-52 after three quarters.

Junior guard Isaiah Jones led Carman-Ainsworth with a career-high 30 points. Point guard Mehki Ellison added 23 for the Cavaliers (3-0).

Tyson Davis scored 28 points to lead Goodrich and Aidan Rubio added 17.

Carman-Ainsworth remained unbeaten in three games. Goodrich fell to 4-1.

Flushing boys basketball at Linden

Linden 50, Flushing 31

Blake Lund scored 19 points and Matt Wisniewski added 11 for Linden, which won for the second straight night while raising its record to 2-1. The Eagles outscored Flushing 17-4 in the second quarter to take a 28-12 lead at halftime. Makhi McCombs led Flushing (3-1) with 13 points.

Flint 58, Corunna 47

James Williams had 22 points, five steals and four assists to lead Flint (2-2). Quayvon Warred added 11 points while Julian Gardner and Davone Morris scored seven apiece.

Davison 46, Fenton 43

Teon Armstrong scored 16 points and Landen Mullen had 11 for Davison, which raised its record to 4-2 by outscoring Fenton 16-13 in the fourth quarter after the teams were deadlocked at 30 through 24 minutes. Seth Logan scored 17 points to lead Fenton (3-2).

Grand Blanc 71, Muskegon 53

Sophomore point guard R.J. Taylor led Grand Blanc in scoring for the fifth straight game with 22 points. Junior forward Ty Rodgers added 19 to go with a whopping 20 rebounds as Grand Blanc raised its record to 5-1. The Bobcats trailed 13-11 after eight minutes before outscoring Muskegon 19-11 in the second quarter. They hiked the lead to 31 points midway through the fourth. Muskegon is 4-2.

Brandon 59, Holly 48

Brandon raised its record to 3-2. Holly is 0-4.

Pontiac Notre Dame Prep 72, New Lothrop 46

Jayden Galloup had 11 points for New Lothrop (2-2). Joe Bitterman added eight points for the Hornets.

Kearsley 65, Swartz Creek 63

Kearsley raised its record to 3-2. Swartz Creek fell to 0-3.

Powers Catholic 50, Mount Pleasant 43

Owen Lobsinger scored 28 points to lead Powers (3-2). Ryan Gunner scored 14 for Mount Pleasant (0-2).

Byron 41 Fowler 39

Byron lost only one game last season in compiling a 23-1 record, the best in school history. But the Eagles avenged that defeat to Fowler while giving coach Theresa Marvin her 100th career victory.

Makayla Clement’s floater with 12 seconds to play put Byron in front. She finished with 12 points. Sarah Marvin added 11 points, 12 rebounds, seven steals and six assists, including the one that set up Clement’s game-winning shot.

Makenna Clement had seven points and Becky Marvin grabbed eight rebounds.

The game was the sixth in 12 days for Byron (6-0). Fowler is 3-1.

Flushing girls basketball at Linden

Flushing 52, Linden 22

Alex Long scored 19 points and sophomore Sarah Rambus had 14 to lead Flushing, which is 4-2 after winning its third straight game. Long added eight rebounds and Rambus grabbed seven to go with three blocked shots. Flushing outscored the Eagles 22-11 in the second quarter to take a 29-13 lead at halftime. Paige Leedle scored eight points to lead Linden (3-1).

Bay City Western 73, Lapeer 15

Lapeer’s record fell to 0-5. Bay City Western is 2-3.

Oscoda 70, Durand 40

Oscoda remained unbeaten in six games this season. Durand fell to 1-3.

Davison 55, Fenton 40

Davison bounced back from Friday’s loss at Grand Blanc and raised its record to 4-2. Ellary Darling led Davison with 15 points and seven rebounds. Olivia Dirkse added 10 points and 12 rebounds for the Cardinals, who also got 10 points from Alora Sevenski. Fenton (2-2) got 11 points apiece from Kaleigh Shaker and Kyla Lynch. Korryn Smith added 10.

Emily Bissett scored 16 points and Alexcis Parker had 14 for Powers (0-4). Mount Pleasant raised its record to 2-1.

Imlay City 64, Holly 34

Mary Lengemann led Imlay City with 17 points and six assists. The Broncos are 4-1.
