The collective sigh of relief you might have heard was likely the Knicks’ fan base.
It’s no secret the Knicks and their fans are hoping they’ll sign soon-to-be free agent Kevin Durant this summer, but watched in horror on Wednesday night when the current Golden State star injured himself during the Warriors’ 104-99, Game 5 win over Houston.
He left the game limping and never returned.
According to a report by CBSsports.com. Durant ‘only’ suffered a mild sprain in his right calf. He’ll be reevaluated in another week, which means he will miss the remainder of the Warriors’ series against the Rockets.
Dr. Alan Beyer, an orthopedic surgeon and executive medical director at the Hoag Orthopedic Institute in Newport Beach, Calif., was interviewed by CBSsports.com. The renown surgeon said the mild sprain is likely "somewhere between a Grade 1 and Grade 2 strain, which is going to likely keep him out for two weeks in a best-case scenario.”
That means Durant won’t likely return until late in the Western Conference finals, should the Warriors get there.
The good news, however, is the 6-foot-10 scoring machine should be healthy by the time the Knicks are ready to throw tons of cash his way with one of their two max salaries.
