MOORHEAD -- On a day featuring significant movement and exciting action, NDSU standout Van Holmgren birdied three of his final four holes en route to claiming the BlackRidge Amateur.
A year after finishing second overall, Holmgren (-3) put together a stellar performance while winning the tournament by five strokes.
"I told myself I didn't want to take second, especially to a possible teamate because of bragging rights," Holmgren said afterward. "It was very satisfying to take first."

Tied for 16th place headed into the final day, defending champion Andrew Israelson (+2) climbed the leaderboard while finishing in a four-way tie for second place with Pat Deitz, Adam Gronaas and Jonnie Miller.
