Ohio State lands LeBron James’ ‘nephew’ Meechie Johnson

LeBron James will have yet another reason to watch Ohio State.

The Buckeyes landed four-star point guard Demetrius “Meechie” Johnson Jr. for their 2021 class this week, a rising junior whom LeBron refers to as his “nephew.”

Johnson’s father and real-life uncle have been lifelong friends with James, all having starred at different levels of basketball in their native Ohio.

James, who went straight from high school to the NBA but is a big fan of the Buckeyes, has been a constant spectator at the youngest Johnson’s games as he rises through the ranks at Garfield Heights High School.

At 5-foot-11 and 160 pounds, Meechie is ranked the No. 71 prospect in the 2021 class, having received an offer from Ohio State before playing a game of high school ball. He reportedly had offers from Louisville, Georgetown, Miami University and other Big Ten schools.
