ALEXANDRIA, VA—Cameron Run Regional Park is set to become more than just a waterpark enjoyed in the summer.

The Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority is moving forward with plans to add an ice skating rink and Winter Village to open later in 2019. Washington Business Journal reported that the park authority contracted Precision Ice Rinks to build the seasonal rink.

NOVA Parks put out a request for proposals in February relating to the ice rink. The request called for a portable rink around 80 feet by 65 feet with refrigeration to maintain the ice.

The Winter Village will have ice skating, rides and games, light displays, food and beverage, and other activities. The park authority aims for it to open Nov. 15 and run through Feb. 28. Construction of the ice rink would have to finish by the first day of November.

NOVA Parks wrote in the request for proposals the winter operation will change the park " from a summer seasonal waterpark operation, into a year-round attraction for families in the surrounding region."
