THE St Giles Animal Rescue charity is to close within the next four months.

An announcement on social media says the charity, which has been in existence for 14 years, has reached "the difficult decision" as it can "no longer meet its charitable objectives".

A statement says: "This is largely due to the increasing demand for our services, an increase in costs and a reduction in our income all of which have occurred over the past 12 months."

It adds: "Going forward, the rescue and rehoming activities will continue, but will be undertaken by St Giles Animal Welfare Ltd, a not-for-profit arm of St Giles Animal Centre Ltd.

"Both the welfare company and St Giles Animal Centre will continue to be run by the Linnell family."

Over the coming days, the charity’s social media accounts will be transferred to and rebranded as St Giles Animal Welfare.

The charity is planning to contact its regular donors.

The statement says: "To all our supporters, a very big thank you.

"Over the past 14 years together we have helped rescue and rehome thousands of dogs and cats.

"St Giles Animal Welfare Ltd. will continue with that good work going forward.

"If you would like to contact us on this matter you can do so at, stgilesanimalcharity@btinternet.com.

"Thank you to everyone for your support."

St Giles Animal Centre is not affected by the decision and is open as normal.
