Photographer and performer Alejandra Glez has made a name for herself in digital video art. Her work is purely feminist, and she is currently one of the Cuban visual artists with the most influence internationally in her field from Cuba.

This interview is part of The World Made Local, a global collaboration between the seven international editions of Condé Nast Traveller in which 100 people in 100 countries tell us why their home turf should be your next destination.

Tell us a little about Havana. What do you think makes this city so special?

Really for me the most special thing that Cuba has is the Cuban people: its people and its humanity.

Where are we eating?

The best breakfast in Havana is without a doubt El Café. You will find good coffee anywhere in Cuba, but I recommend getting a cup for two pesos from a street stand, which is very authentic.

And the best cocktail?

The best cocktail is wherever Wilson is! Wilson is a Cuban boy who prepares the best cocktails in the city, and you can find him in the restaurant El del Frente.

Tell us a little about the art and photography scene in Cuba right now.

Undoubtedly art in Cuba is a strong point. I encourage travellers to meet all the young and legendary artists all over the island. Take a stroll through the artist studios in the city. It is a magical experience.

What projects are you working on right now?

I have two exhibitions, in Barcelona in September at the Utopia art centre, and at Arsenal Venice, as a finalist for the Arte Laguna Prize in October.
