Update: Delays on Verrazano cleared, short delays on borough-bound BQE

Update, 7:30 p.m.: The are no longer delays on the Verrazano Bridge, however, express buses are still running with delays, according to the MTA. Delays of 10 minutes are being reported on the Staten Island-bound side of the BQE.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - An accident on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway is causing extensive delays during their Friday evening commute to Staten Island.

According to Notify NYC, a disabled bus has blocked off the left westbound lane of the BQE before the Prospect Expressway exit.

A tweet from a commuter shows the broken down MTA bus in the HOV lane.

According to the tweet, traffic is backed up to Queens as a result of the disabled vehicle.

The commuter is also reporting that passengers on the broken down bus were offloaded and to another bus.

One Staten Islander who is travelling home in his car said he's been stuck in near standstill traffic for nearly 45 minutes.

Delays are also being reported with the express buses due to heavy traffic on the Gowanus Expressway, according to MTA.info.
