Staten Island, NY – The Wagner College women’s basketball team under the direction of fourth-year head coach Heather Jacobs, announced its 2019-20 schedule on Friday. The upcoming season slate for the Seahawks features 14 contests at the Spiro Sports Center.

Wagner opens the season on Wednesday, Nov. 6 with a matchup against Big Ten member, the University of Maryland. This marks the first meeting between the Seahawks and Terrapins since Nov. 16, 2014. Closing out the first week of the new season, the Green & White will travel to Indianapolis, IN to tangle with Butler of the Big East. This will be the first-ever matchup between the two schools.

Wagner’s home opener marks the first three straight contests to be played at the Spiro Sports Center this season, as the Seahawks host Saint Peter’s (Nov. 13), followed by UMBC (Nov. 16) and concluding the homestand against NJIT (Nov. 19).

The Seahawks will then travel to Youngstown State for their first-ever contest against the Penguins on November 23 before closing the first month of the season back on Grymes Hill against newly-elevated Division II member, Staten Island, on November 30.

December features three contests for Wagner, opening the month at home against Stony Brook on December 15. Coach Jacobs and company closes out the calendar year and non-conference play on the road, with three games away from Staten Island, as the Green & White will take on Rider (Dec. 18), Colgate (Dec. 22) and Yale (Dec. 31).

The New Year and Northeast Conference (NEC) action commences on the road for the sixth straight season for Wagner with a trip to Mount St. Mary’s on Thursday, January 2 and concludes the first week of league play at home on Saturday, January 4 against Sacred Heart. The Green & White will then trek to Western Pennsylvania for a two-game stretch, taking on defending league champions, Robert Morris, on Saturday, January 11 before squaring off against Saint Francis U on Monday, January 13.

Wagner will host their borough rivals, beginning on Saturday, January 18 as St. Francis Brooklyn comes to Grymes Hill before the Seahawks welcome for the first-time, the Long Island University Sharks, on Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, January 20. The month ends with two road contest, beginning at Central Connecticut (Jan. 25) and wrapping up at Bryant (Jan. 27).

The month of February opens with a trio of home contests, beginning on Monday, February 3 against Fairleigh Dickinson. The Seahawks will close out its season-series against the Western Pennsylvania contingent of Saint Francis U (Feb. 8) and Robert Morris (Feb.10). Saturday, February 15 marks the first-time that Wagner and newest NEC-member, Merrimack, will tangle as the Seahawks and Warriors meet in North Andover, MA.

From there, Wagner returns home to the friendly confines of Staten Island, as they welcome Mount St. Mary’s (Feb. 17) on President’s Day. In a Friday, Sunday weekend schedule, Wagner will host Central Connecticut (Feb. 21) before going across the Verrazzano Bridge into Downtown Brooklyn to take on St. Francis Brooklyn (Feb. 23). The month ends with a trip back to Brooklyn to square off against the Long Island University Sharks (Feb. 29).

Wagner ends the regular season slate with two games, heading first to the Garden State to square off against Fairleigh Dickinson (Mar. 2) before closing the regular season at home against Bryant (Mar. 5).

The 2020 NEC Women’s Basketball tournament quarterfinal round will start on March 9, while the semifinals will take place on March 12 and the championship will be on March 15, with all three contests being hosted by the highest remaining seed.
