NYC Weather: Severe Thunderstorms Threaten Hail, Flooding

Thunderstorms are expected to drench New York City Wednesday.

NEW YORK, NY — Severe thunderstorms are expected to hit New York City Wednesday, bringing with them heavy rain and large hail, the National Weather Service warned.

Most of the drenching downpours are expected after 2 p.m., the weather service said. Some could be severe.

Along with the rain, the storms could bring strong winds, large hail and flash flooding.

Wednesday: Showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2 p.m. Some storms could be severe with heavy rain. High near 86. South wind 6 to 11 miles per hour. 80 percent chance of precipitation. New rainfall amounts between half and three-quarters of an inch possible.

Wednesday night: Showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 11 p.m. Some storms could be severe with heavy rain. Low, 71. Southwest wind 3 to 8 mph. 80 percent chance of precipitation. New rainfall amounts between one-quarter and half of an inch possible.

Thursday: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2 p.m. Partly sunny with a high near 85. Southwest wind 6 to 9 mph.

Thursday night: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before midnight. Partly cloudy with a low around 70. Southwest winds 8 to 10 mph.

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 86. West wind 9 to 14 mph.
