Man flown to hospital after being hit by lightning in Central Jersey

A 42-year-old man was flown to an area hospital after he was struck by lightning Friday in Kingwood, police said.

The man was conscious and alert after getting hit by the bolt around 3:45 p.m. on Byram Kingwood Road, according to Trooper Alejandro Goez of the New Jersey State Police, which patrols the township.

He was taken by medical helicopter to Lehigh Valley Hospital. His condition was not immediately clear.

Thunderstorms and rain moved through the region late Friday afternoon and evening.
