ALLEGAN COUNTY, MI – Sheriff’s deputies are looking for a couple accused of tossing six chihuahuas out a minivan window, killing five of the them.

Witnesses reported that the dogs were thrown from a passenger window near the 400 block of 124th Avenue in Wayland Township. The witnesses brought the surviving chihuahua to a shelter and buried the others.

Sheriff’s deputies are in the process of recovering the dog’s bodies and hope that they contain identifying information, Allegan County Undersheriff Mike Larsen said.

The shelter contacted police on Tuesday, Feb. 11, about the abuse allegations. Police then contacted the witnesses and planned to retrieve the carcasses Wednesday morning, Larsen said.

The surviving dog was dubbed “Lucky Lu Lu.”

The couple who allegedly disposed of the dogs were described as “very skinny, missing teeth.” She had blond hair while he had dark, longer hair described as “big curly hair,” police said. Both are white in their 20s or 30s. The man was driving, police said.

Police asked anyone with information to call the Sheriff’s Department at 269-673-3899 or Silent Observer at 800-554-3633.
