Alexandria will defend its title as one of the best small cities in America, as determined by travel magazine readers. Alexandria was nominated in the cities category for Condé Nast Traveler’s 2019 Reader Choice Awards.

Last year, Condé Nast Traveler named Alexandria the fourth best small city among the likings of Charleston, South Carolina; Santa Fe, New Mexico; and Savannah, Georgia. The travel magazine split rankings into two categories: small cities with populations under 1 million and big cities with populations over 1 million. Condé Nast Traveler described Alexandria as a draw "for travelers and future residents alike."

Five Alexandria hotels also received nominations for the 2019 awards: The Alexandrian, Autograph Collection; Hilton Alexandria Mark Center; Hilton Alexandria Old Town; Morrison House; and Kimpton Lorien Hotel & Spa.
