JJ Watt picked Cardinals because of Kyler Murray

JJ Watt is apparently a big Kyler Murray fan.

His decision to sign with the Cardinals was at least partly based on his opinion of the young quarterback, according to ESPN’s Ed Werder.

Werder reported that the “first criteria” for Watt in picking a team was the quarterback. Murray, 23, is the first player in NFL history to throw for over 7,500 yards, over 45 touchdown passes and over 15 rushing scores in his first two seasons.

The No. 1 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, Murray is already familiar with Watt. The speedy QB posted a photo of him alongside his new teammate and Minnesota Timberwolves center Karl-Anthony Towns.

“6 years ago.. my senior year of HS. Welcome to AZ! Let’s get it! @JJWatt,” Murray wrote.

When Watt requested, and was given, his release, the expectation was he would pick a Super Bowl contender. The Cardinals went just 8-8 last year, but Watt must see something there others don’t. The quarterback must make him think a big jump is coming.
