Following the death of The Overtones singer Timmy Matley last week, the group has cancelled two of their upcoming shows.

The 36-year-old had been battling skin cancer before his death, with the news confirmed by his bandmates on 11 April.

Now they’ve chosen to cancel the gigs scheduled for the end of this month, as the heartbroken band took to Twitter earlier today to let their fans know.

‘A message from Overtones HQ,’ their statement began. ‘The Overtones have postponed their performances at Potters on April 22nd and Bedworth on April 28th.

‘The boys will be in touch with you all soon and have asked us to thank you all for your condolences and understanding.’

Last week it was announced Timmy had passed away after being diagnosed with stage 3, then stage 4 malignant melanoma – a form of skin cancer – in 2016.

However the circumstances of his passing have not been confirmed.

The Overtones members Mike Crawshaw, Mark Franks, Darren Everest and Lachie Chapman tweeted: ‘It is with the greatest sadness that we have to announce that our dear friend and brother Timmy has passed away.

‘We know this news will be as heartbreaking for you all as it is for us.

‘We appreciate your love and support at this difficult time.’

Matley’s final performance with The Overtones was on 23 March, when the band performed on Jane McDonald And Friends.
