A former Clay-Chalkville High School volunteer assistant coach has been indicted on charges she had sexual contact with a teen student.
A Jefferson County grand jury issued two indictments against Willyncia Joy Harper, 23. The indictments were handed down March 9, and made public Friday. She is charged with being a school employee engaging in sex act with a student under the age of 19 and school employee having sexual contact with a student under the age of 19. Both charges are felony crimes.
The Hoover woman was initially arrested in February 2017 by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office. Lawmen said she is accused of sexual contact with a 15-year-old female student multiple times. The accusations against Harper started on Dec. 7, 2016 when the school resource officer was informed by administrators about the inappropriate relationship between the coach and the child.
The student's mother told investigators she found the coach and her daughter alone together when she went to pick the child up from the child father's home. The mother felt uneasy about the situation and started questioning her daughter. The girl admitted to having a relationship with the volunteer assistant coach of her volleyball team. The mother informed the school the next day.
Detectives discovered the coach and the student had engaged in sexual contact several times between the months of October and December at the father's home. Harper denied the allegations and said that she treated the student like a sister.
Harper has been out on bond since her initial arrest. The case has not yet been set for trial.
