Rob Gronkowski Explains Why Bill Belichick Deserves Full Control in Next Coaching Job

Bill Belichick is a coaching free agent for the first time in more than two decades following his departure from the New England Patriots on Jan. 11.

The 71-year-old has already conducted two interviews with the Atlanta Falcons, who dismissed Arthur Smith after the 2023 regular season. Belichick is believed to want to maintain control over personnel decisions at his next destination, which could complicate any deal between himself and an organization.

Former Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski, however, believes any team interested in the legendary coach should be willing to accommodate that level of control.

During a recent appearance alongside former New England kicker Adam Vinatieri on Up & Adams with host Kay Adams, Gronkowski explained his stance.

“I would 100% hand [control] over to Coach Belichick. He has a proven record of being able to handle it, and he handled it very well for however long he was in New England,” said Gronkowski.

“He knows how to do it, he’s got experience. Hand it over to him, he’s gonna change the program around.”

Gronkowski spent nine of his 11 seasons in the NFL under Belichick’s tutelage with the Patriots. Belichick had full control of player personnel in New England, where he won six championships and 17 division titles across 24 seasons.

Having witnessed the coach’s legendary success first hand, Gronkowski had no reservations about whether letting Belichick take the reins with that level of control would be beneficial for an organization.
