Boulder police arrested a suspect in connection with a stolen vehicle Friday after he reportedly eluded police on U.S. 36 until a tire popped on the vehicle, which then resulted in a foot chase.

Police were called about 2:40 p.m. after someone saw a red sedan that had been reported stolen a few days earlier. The driver avoided officers on U.S. 36, but the vehicle eventually stopped east of Table Mesa Drive when a tire popped, said Sgt. Andrew Heaton of the Boulder Police Department.

“He fled northbound, crossing through traffic and was apprehended on a field,” Heaton said.

Heaton said the suspect is in custody but no charges had yet been filed Friday afternoon.

Westbound U.S. 36 at the intersection of Cherryvale Road and eastbound U.S. 36 at Table Mesa Drive were closed for about 25 minutes, Heaton said.

Heaton said Foothills Parkway, which was previously reported to have been closed by Colorado State Patrol, did not shut down.

The sedan is damaged, but it is expected to be returned to the owner after the police investigation, Heaton said.
