Jamaica plot audacious move to call-up 15 English stars, including Michail Antonio, Demarai Gray, Max Aarons and Liam Moore ahead of next year's World Cup - and most of them have already applied for their Jamaican passports!

  • Jamaica have a shortlist of 15 English players they want to call up to their squad
  • Most of them are already in the process of acquiring their Jamaican passports
  • Michail Antonio is one of three Premier League players they want to call up
  • Max Aarons, Demarai Gray and Ivan Toney are waiting for England call-ups

Jamaica are plotting an audacious move to recruit 15 English stars for their senior squad, including Michail Antonio, Demarai Gray, Max Aarons and Liam Moore ahead of next year's World Cup in Qatar.

Bayer Leverkusen's Gray, Norwich defender Aarons and Brentford striker Ivan Toney are on Jamaica's radar but they are all hopeful of getting an England call-up and are reluctant to switch their international allegiance at this time, Sportsmail understands.

As well as the aforementioned players, Jamaica are also hopeful of persuading Isaac Hayden, Andre Gray, Ethan Pinnock Mason Holgate, Kemar Roofe, Rolando Aarons, Curtis Tilt, Jamal Lowe, Amari'i Bell and Kasey Palmer to represent them.

Demarai Gray was confirmed by JFF chief Michael Ricketts as a target but the winger is said to be still hopeful of getting an England call-up

Reading defender Moore has already got his Jamaican passport while JFF President Michael Ricketts confirmed that many of the players they want to call-up are in the process of acquiring one.

'I see Andre Gray, Demarai Gray, Isaac Hayden, who actually approached the JFF about representing us, Mason Holgate, Liam Moore, who already has his Jamaican passport, Nathan Redmond, Kemar Roofe and Ivan Toney. All of these we are in the process of acquiring their Jamaican passports,' Ricketts confirmed this week.

'The process is becoming a little tedious because of the pandemic but the process is ongoing and we are hopeful we will get the passports for these gentlemen in reasonable time.

'We have been having discussions. I just spoke with the Permanent Secretary for Sport and he has agreed to try and help us to facilitate and to expedite the process.'

Despite Ricketts' statement, Sportsmail has been told by the JFF that Southampton forward Redmond has not been contacted about playing for them.

Toney, Aarons and Bayer Leverkusen winger Gray, meanwhile, are currently unlikely to accept a Jamaica call-up right now as they still have aspirations to get an England call-up.

The JFF are however confident of landing Ethan Pinnock, Rolando Aarons, Kemar Roofe, Curtis Tilt, Amari'i Bell, Kasey Palmer and Liam Moore, who either already have their passports or are in the process of getting one.

Newcastle midfielder Hayden is said to be focused on their Premier League relegation battle but is another player who could switch his allegiance.

Everton have been contacted about defender Holgate representing Jamaica but the JFF have not yet received a response.

Sportsmail reported last week that West Ham star Antonio is set to switch his international allegiance from England to Jamaica in a bid to play in the 2022 World Cup after being repeatedly snubbed for game-time, and the JFF have confirmed his interest.

The 30-year-old turned down the chance to represent Jamaica in 2016 and was later called up to England squads by Sam Allardyce and Gareth Southgate but did not make his debut.

He is now expected to accept Jamaica's latest approach with their Football Federation hoping he will be available for the CONCACAF qualifiers in September against Mexico and Costa Rica despite David Moyes urging him not to give up on an England call-up, having scored seven Premier League goals this season.

Several of Jamaica's targets have already represented England at youth level, with Moore, Max Aarons, Demarai Gray, Hayden and Holgate all playing for the Three Lions in the past.

Jamaica's move for English players is reminiscent of their 1998 World Cup squad, which included seven stars from these shores, including Frank Sinclair, Robbie Earle and Marcus Gayle.
