Warzone’s Latest Patch Still Doesn’t Fix The Game’s Most Irritating Bug

This article is more than 2 years old.

Raven Software works tirelessly on Warzone—now Warzone Pacific—not just on new content but on the constant balancing act required to incorporate three major Call Of Duty titles into the free-to-play battle royale shooter.

Modern Warfare (2019), Black Ops Cold War (2020) and Vanguard (2021) are all part of Warzone now, and balancing all these weapons and other items, not to mention the story and Operators and Battle Passes and all the rest, is a Herculean task.

So it’s no wonder there are bugs and glitches galore with the release of the new Caldera map and integration with Vanguard.

In the game’s latest patch, many of these problems were fixed or improved, but one issue remains a massive frustration for players: The Buy Station freeze.

That sounds terrible, what is that?

I’m glad you asked. Basically, in Warzone there are a bunch of Buy Stations scattered around the map(s) where you can purchase stuff like Gas Masks, Killstreaks, Loadout Drops and even redeploy fallen comrades.

Oh, those sound pretty helpful!

They are helpful! One key to success in this game is utilizing Buy Stations to your advantage, whether that’s to pop a UAV so you can see nearby enemies on the mini-map, or snagging a Munitions Box to resupply ammo and tactical gear.

And these are freezing? Has winter come to Caldera?

No, silly. There’s no winter in Caldera. It’s a tropical island.

But yes, Buy Stations are freezing. Or, rather, when a player opens a Buy Station it sometimes freezes the game. It usually doesn’t last a super long time, but even a few seconds can mean the difference between life and death.

Oof, that sucks.

Yes, it really does suck. It happens a lot, too. You’ll slide into a Buy Station hoping to bring back a squad-mate and next thing you know, the game freezes and you’re getting shot at from across the street and can’t duck into cover or fire back.

Is there a work-around?

Well, yes and no. You can not slide into Buy Stations to keep this from happening as frequently. Apparently the act of sliding into a Buy Station makes them freeze. You’re less likely to experience this glitch if you just walk up at a normal speed or in a crouch. But it can still happen, and in fact happened to us playing the game last night.

What about this new patch Raven Software issued?

Well, according to the developer there have been “major improvements” to “reduce the frequency at which Players freeze while accessing the Buy Station” but that does not mean the problem has been solved entirely.

But as I said, this freeze issue happened—without sliding—to our squad while playing last night after the update was in effect. It didn’t happen a lot, but whether that’s to us no longer sliding into Buy Stations or the update is harder to say. We still got two wins so I’m not that worried, but it is very irritating when it happens and hopefully a full fix is on the way.

Okay, what other fixes were in the latest Warzone patch?

I thought you’d never ask!

Here’s the full list of changes, including a major fix to the Xbox button that players on that system have been asking for now for quite some time.
