Coronavirus Death Confirmed at Arlington Heights Hospital

Northwest Community Hospital confirmed the death of a patient with coronavirus on Friday.

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — Northwest Community Healthcare in Arlington Heights confirmed the death of a patient in their 60s that had tested positive for the coronavirus. The patient, who had severe underlying health conditions, was admitted to the hospital on Monday and passed away on Friday.

A statement from the hospital said that staff members are deeply saddened by the patient's passing and are extending their deepest condolences to the patient's family.

"NCH has been preparing for potential coronavirus patients to arrive in need of treatment since the earliest diagnosis of this global public health threat," the statement read. "We are staffed with infectious disease specialists and equipped with the capabilities, training and facilities to provide the treatment necessary to care for a person with a complex or highly contagious disease."

As of Friday, the U.S. has more reported coronavirus cases than any other country. On Thursday, over 2,500 cases and 26 deaths in Illinois were reported.
