Gigi Hadid might be knee deep in the early days of motherhood, but that hasn't stopped her making time for something else that's very important: voting. The 25-year-old model took to Instagram this week to urge the American citizens among her 60 million followers to vote in the upcoming US Presidential election, as well as sharing that she has already cast hers.

In the first post-baby selfie to have made it onto her grid, Gigi uploaded a photo of herself in yellow tracksuit bottoms and a black t-shirt spelling out the word VOTE. Accompanying the photo, the new mum wrote: "I voted absentee last week with my daughter next to me, for an America I want her to see; but not just for us - for fellow Americans that are less privileged, with hope for a nation that is unified, that is empathetic, and for a leader that is compassionate."

Gigi and her partner, Zayn Malik, welcomed their baby daughter in September, and have continued to keep her name a secret. The new parents uploaded a photograph of their newborn's tiny hands to accompany their announcement, and Gigi's mum Yolanda Hadid recently shared another new picture of the baby girl's adorable hands, with her face out of shot.

In Gigi Hadid's political post, she reminded her followers that they have a week and a half left to have their say. On November 3, President Donald Trump will go head-to-head with his Democratic opponent Joe Biden to determine who will lead America for the next four years. "If you're voting early I'm proud of you," wrote Gigi. "If you mailed in your absentee ballot I'm proud of you. If you're going to the polls on November 3rd I'm proud of you. Whatever your plan, I'm proud of you. Make sure you have one," she continued, asking people to share their voting plans with her in the comments.

The response Gigi received was largely positive, with celebrity friends and fans alike posting enthusiastically about exercising their right to vote.

The model isn't the only famous face to have encouraged her followers to vote in the election; Kylie Jenner recently posted a bikini picture on Instagram, questioning in the caption: "But are you registered to vote? Click the link in my bio...let’s make a plan to vote together."

With statistics showing that under 30s in America are less likely to vote than those over the age of 30, the positive impact celebrities will have by highlighting the importance of voting to their young fans cannot be emphasised enough. Let's hope they all take action come next Monday!
