All five of Worcester’s breweries are teaming up to create a limited-edition 'Snoopy Cap’ beer

All five of Worcester’s breweries are teaming up to create a limited-edition brew that will only be available during next month’s Worcester Beer Week.

The beer, “Snoopy Cap," is a coffee brown ale that will be released during the kickoff of the first ever Worcester Beer Week in September.

Redemption Rock Brewing Co., Greater Good Imperial Brewing Co., Wormtown Brewery, 3cross Fermentation Cooperative and Flying Dreams Brewing Co. all contributed to the project. The beer will be created using coffee from Worcester’s Acoustic Java Roastery.

“It’s hyperlocal in the sense that we’re brewing with Valley Malt out of Hadley, Mass., we’re using Four Star Farms hops, we’re using Acoustic Java coffee and all five of the Worcester breweries are making it, so it’s probably the most local beer you can drink,” said Greater Good Brewer Meredith Winnett, who came up with the idea for the collaboration.

Snoopy Cap is being brewed by Redemption Rock Brewing Co. and will come in at between 5 and 6 percent alcohol by volume.

Winnett said the group went to Acoustic Java to pick out the right coffee blend with owner David Fullerton. The result will be a roasty beer with fruity coffee notes.

“We were all kind of thinking the same thing, we wanted to do something local,” Redemption Rock Head Brewer Greg Carlson said.

After coming up with the idea for the collaboration, Winnett said it was easy to get the other breweries on board.

“Everyone is super into it, everyone is really excited to just hang out and see what we can do together. There was no hesitation from anyone,” she said.

The brew is named after the communications carrier assembly known as the “Snoopy Cap” that American astronauts used to transmit words from the first space capsule to touch down on the moon.

The device was made by David Clark Co. in Worcester.

Wormtown Brewery managing partner David Fields came up with the name for the beer.

The group expects to brew the beer in late August and have it ready for the Mass Brewers Guild’s “Great Mass Collab” beer festival taking place Sept. 21 in Worcester.

“I think the five breweries are really proud the Mass. Brewers Guild keeps putting on these festivals in Worcester — it’s a great way to showcase the city,” Carlson said.

That event will kick of Worcester Beer Week, a new initiative developed by the breweries that will feature a number of events, including tap takeovers, brewery tours, a disc golf tournament and a rooftop party.

Further details are forthcoming.

Snoopy Cap will be available at select locations during Worcester Beer Week, including at the Great Mass Collab and Worcester Beer Week events.
