Johnny Peirson, Former Bruins Player, Broadcaster, Dies At 95

Peirson spent the entirety of his 12-year playing career with the Bruins before moving to the broadcast booth.

BOSTON, MA — Former Boston Bruins player Johnny Peirson, who had a second career as the team's color commentator, has died, the Bruins announced Saturday. He was 95 years old.

"The Boston Bruins send their heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of former Bruin and longtime broadcaster Johnny Peirson," the team said in a statement on Twitter.

Peirson spent the entirety of his 12-year playing career with the Bruins, finishing with 153 goals and 173 assists for 326 points in 545 games and two NHL All-Star game appearances. He and play-by-play announcer Fred Cusick began calling games together for WBZ radio in 1969 before moving to television for 18 years.

"Sad day for Boston Bruins fans," lead Bruins/NHL writer Joe Haggerty tweeted. "Fred Cusick and Johnny Peirson were the voices of my childhood when it came to the B's."
