Jack Wilshere remains on the search for a new club but will not be able to play in Serie B because of his non-EU passport, it has been revealed.

Former Arsenal and West Ham midfielder Wilshere left Bournemouth at the end of last season, spending just a few months there, and is currently training with Como.

But he has been dealt a blow in his bid to find a new home with issues over his documentation preventing him from taking up a new second-tier challenge.

A tweet from the official Serie B Twitter account, released on deadline day, translates as: 'Jack Wilshere is training with Como 1907 by Jack Gattuso in these hours.

'But he cannot be registered in #SerieBKT because of the non-EU passport.'

It was initially claimed by Sky Italia that Wilshere would have difficulty registering in Serie B as a non-EU player, but he is hopeful of finding a club in Italy.

Reportedly, Wilshere knows figures at Como, and that is the reason why he has taken the decision to train there in a bid to keep his fitness levels up.

Wilshere's most recent spell at Bournemouth in the Championship ended with his contract failing to be extended.

Despite helping them reach the play-off semi-finals, the 29-year-old was let go prematurely at the end of a stint that came six months on from his West Ham release.

Earlier this month, Wilshere told talkSPORT that 'nothing has come up yet' in terms of finding a new club, but stressed he was 'waiting for the right opportunity.'

He went on to add: 'I've actually had a good pre-season. I've been training with a club just to keep myself fit. I'm in a good place, physically. I'm 29.

'I'm waiting for the right opportunity to come up, to be honest.

'But, having said that, nothing has come up at the minute and there's nothing happening. I don't know the answer to that question to be honest.

'I'm just waiting. I don't really know how long I can wait.

'I don't really want to wait as long as I did last time when I left West Ham in the summer, and then I didn't get a club until January when I went to Bournemouth.'

He was recently made a public offer to join Wigan Athletic, however, soon after it emerged that he had weighed up whether or not to quit football.

Wilshere insisted he still has 'hunger' to play on with a new club and, judging by the post from Wigan chairman Talal Al Hammad, may have a chance in the North-West.

On Wednesday night, Wigan chairman Talal Al Hammad tweeted Wilshere to offer him a chance to join the squad.

'You are most welcome to join us @LaticsOfficial,' the Al Hammad wrote, adding the hashtag #Believe.'
