Guardians Minor League Team Announced Plans for Brian Windhorst Bobblehead, and NBA Fans Had Jokes
ESPN reporter Brian Windhorst, who has spent the bulk of his journalism career closely covering LeBron James, will be honored by a Cleveland Guardians affiliate this summer.
The Double-A Akron RubberDucks announced Tuesday they will be handing out a bobblehead of Windhorst to the first 1,000 fans for their game Sept. 14 against the Hartford Yard Goats.
Windhorst grew up in Akron and shares an alma mater with James, as both graduated from St. Vincent-St. Mary High School. Windhorst worked at the Akron Beacon Journal as the Cleveland Cavaliers’ beat reporter when James was drafted in 2003.
“Brian is a legend in his hometown of Akron, and we are so proud of what he’s accomplished as a sports broadcast journalist and television analyst,” RubberDucks president Jim Pfander said in a statement. “We are excited to give away his bobblehead on Saturday, Sept. 14 and honor his incredible contributions to the sports industry.”
Windhorst, who has worked at ESPN since 2010, is often turned into a meme by NBA fans, most notably from his viral monologue about the Utah Jazz’s odd offseason moves in July 2022.
