Fendi to show collection of Karl Lagerfeld’s greatest hits

Fendi will once again pay tribute to its late creative director Karl Lagerfeld with a retrospective of his greatest hits.

The Italian fashion house plans to hold a couture runway show in Rome on July 4 which will “reprise all [Lagerfeld’s] creations” from his 54-year tenure, according to Bernard Arnault, the chairman and chief executive officer of the label’s parent company LVMH.

“It was probably the longest collaboration there has ever been between a designer and a house, so he leaves an incredible heritage at Fendi,” Arnault told WWD.

The luxury brand already honored the legendary designer, who was appointed to the house in 1965, during its fall 2019 fashion show in February. Small cards inscribed with Lagerfeld’s signature and 19.02.2019, the date of his passing, were placed on every chair along with copies of his sketches from the last collection he designed.

The fashion icon, who was also the creative director of Chanel and his own eponymous label, passed away earlier this year at the age of 85 after a battle with pancreatic cancer.

A spokesperson for Fendi confirmed that the collection, designed by the brand’s creative studio with Silvia Venturini Fendi, will also be exhibited in Rome following the runway show, at a location still to be determined.
