Philadelphia Eagles' Patrick Robinson ruled out of game vs. 49ers with head injury

PHILADELPHIA -- Eagles cornerback Patrick Robinson appeared to injure his head while making a big play during the first half of Sunday's game against the 49ers.

Robinson lunged forward to break up a short slant pass in the second quarter and drove his helmet into San Francisco wide receiver Aldrick Robinson's hip. The collision caused the ball ricochet skyward, allowing Eagles safety Rodney McLeod to swoop in and secure the first interception of the afternoon for either team.

But soon afterward, the Eagles announced doctors were evaluating Patrick Robinson for a concussion. The team then said Robinson would not return Sunday.

Robinson's experienced somewhat of a career revival in Philadelphia, thriving while covering slot receivers for the Birds' defense. The Eagles replaced Robinson on the final two drives of the first half with fourth-year cornerback Dexter McDougle, whom the team acquired in a trade from the Jets during the preseason.

As Robinson remained healthy and effective through the first seven games of the season, McDougle saw limited action on defense. He's likely to rake in extended playing time down the stretch of Sunday's game, however.

The Eagles took a 17-0 lead into halftime against the 49ers.
