As we reported earlier, New Year celebrations were cancelled in France this year as the country continues to battle record breaking numbers of coronavirus cases.
Despite this, thousands of people gathered on Champs-Elysees avenue in Paris to usher in the new year.
The fireworks "spectacular" took a tour through London to mark midnight, and ended with a rendition of Auld Lang Syne performed by the West End musical choir.
This was just minutes to midnight...
The UK's "spectacular" began with a countdown to midnight on the Shard, before a monologue took place following a scattering of fireworks on the Millennium Bridge.
The speech walked through the UK's achievements this year, including the successes of the Tokyo Olympics and Emma Raducanu's win at the US Open.
Cameras then cut to displays at the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich, where an impressive drone show took place amid a dazzling display of colourful fireworks.
Later, the West End musical choir performed a medley of ABBA songs inside the Globe Theatre.
And then we returned to Greenwich for a short ode to Sir Elton John and a stunning pyrotechnic display set to music.
We're minutes away from the start of 2022, and celebrations are expected to be somewhat muted due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Sadiq Khan has promised a "spectacular" in London, while no festivities will take place in Wales and Scotland at midnight.
It is unclear exactly what will happen in the capital in six minutes' time, but Mr Khan has insisted it will be better watched at home...
It's been under an hour since Croatia marked the start of a brand new year, as much of Europe leaves 2021 behind.
An impressive fireworks show took place at Zagreb's main square tonight, with hundreds of people gathering to celebrate.
