National Ice Cream Day: Cool Down With These Virginia, DC Deals

With temperatures feeling like 100 degrees and above, National Ice Cream Day comes along just in time on Sunday, July 21. We've compiled a list of freebies or deals on cold treats around Virginia and DC.

The folks at Offers.com set out to determine which ice cream flavors Americans crave the most and surveyed over 1,000 people. The traditional chocolate and vanilla flavors took the top spots, but they were followed closely by other choices:

• Chocolate – 24 percent
• Vanilla – 19 percent
• Cookie dough – 16 percent
• Mint-chocolate – 15 percent
• Strawberry – 11 percent
• Pistachio – 9 percent
• Other – 6 percent

• Baskin-Robbins: Get two pre-packed quarts of ice cream for $7.99 total all day long on July 21. Use code FREESCOOP when making a delivery order through Doordash to get a free scoop of ice cream with a purchase of $10 or more.
• Bruster's: Kids under 40 inches tall get a free baby cone any day. Rewards members get double points on July 21.
• Carvel: Buy one soft serve cone or cup, get one free on July 21.
• Dippin’ Dots: Participating locations will give away free mini cups during a two-hour window. Check with your local store to see if it's participating.
• Ice Cream Jubilee: The local shop will have several locations where it will hand out free scoops. The Yards Park location will be creating the longest sundae in DC. Visit Ice Cream Jubilee's Instagram page to see how you can win a $95 Warby Parker gift card.
• Johnny Rockets: Get a free milkshake with purchase of an entree on July 21 at participating locations.
• Kustard & Co: The locally-owned shop will offer buy one, get one free ice cream scoops. The custard is made fresh in-house with no food dyes, artificial flavors or harmful preservatives.
• Monkey Joe’s: Each child will receive one free ice cream cup per paid admission while supplies last. This cannot be combined with other offers.
• Petsmart: Bring your dog into the store on July 20 or 21 and receive a free doggie ice cream topped with dog biscuits at PetSmart Petshotel locations. No booking is required.
• Sonic: You can score half-price shakes and ice cream cookie sandwiches for $1.49 each every night after 8 p.m.
• Wendy's: Buy the Frosty Key Tag for $2, which gives you a free Jr. Frosty with every purchase at participating locations until Dec. 31.
