LOWELL — Ding, ding.

Week three of the 76th annual Golden Gloves comes to the Lowell Memorial Auditorium this Thursday.

The first Top-Central New England preliminary round bout will begin at 7:30 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale now at lowellauditorium.com or by calling 1-800-657-8774.

The Lowell Memorial Auditorium, constructed in 1922, holds 2,800 fans and is considered one of New England’s most historic boxing venues. The Golden Gloves will run nine weeks. New England champions who rule the ring in Lowell will qualify to fight at nationals.

The first two weeks saw terrific action and enthusiastic crowds. The Golden Gloves annually draws the region’s top amateur fighters, including the cream of the crop from the famous West End Gym in Lowell. The likes of Lowell native Micky Ward, who rose the ranks to became a world boxing champion, have sharpened their skills at the tournament.
