Former President Trump topped President Biden by 8 points among Michigan registered voters in a poll of a hypothetical rematch of the 2020 election.

The CNN poll released Friday found 50 percent of voters say they would support Trump if the presidential election were held today, and 42 percent would support Biden. Five percent say they would support somebody else, and 2 percent say they don’t plan to vote.

The poll also found approval of Biden’s handling of his job is flat at 35 percent, the same percentage as in November.

Additionally, 40 percent of the registered voters polled in Michigan say they have a favorable opinion of Trump, versus 33 percent who say the same about Biden.

Biden flipped Michigan in the 2020 presidential election, after Trump won it in 2016. The president handily won the Michigan Democratic primary last month, but an option on the ballot for voters to choose “uncommitted” received more than 100,000 votes following a campaign that urged voters in the state to choose the option to send Biden a message about their disapproval of his handling of the war in Gaza.

In a polling average from The Hill/Decision Desk HQ on the 2024 election in Michigan, Trump is leading Biden, 45.4 to 42.1 percent.

The CNN poll was conducted March 13-18, featuring a sample of 1,097 registered voters. It has a sampling error of 3.6 percentage points.
