STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Monday is Presidents Day, the day we celebrate all U.S. presidents, both past and present. And for many, it provides a long-awaited, three-day work respite.
Originally established in 1885 to celebrate President George Washington, the holiday became Presidents Day in 1971, when it was moved to a Monday as part of the Uniform Monday Holiday Act. The idea was to create more three-day weekends for workers.
So, now we use the opportunity to celebrate all presidents.
